How To Tell If Your Advertising Sucks

You thoroughly scoured the internet and signed up for an online income system you really believed in. You saw that tons of other people were making money hand over fist. You dive in, write some articles, create a website, start a blog, start running some Google Adwords campaigns, and nothing happens except you’ve lost money or enthusiasm. You give up, write off the program as a loser, write a few forum posts saying you were scammed, and move on to the next program.

The same thing happens. Uh-oh, two bad programs. You have the worst luck.

Or maybe it’s not the programs. Often, if you are not getting the sales results you expect from an online income system that others are successful at promoting, it may be your advertising. Face it: maybe your advertising sucks.

So what are the signs of poor advertising?

The information you need to determine what is going wrong is inside your website or blog traffic data. If you run any sort of website or blog, you need to have a tracking program installed and learn to read the reports. Google Analytics is a good program. It’s free and can be installed almost anywhere with little difficulty (with the glaring exception of the free WordPress blogs, but they have their own tracking, so you’ll be okay).

The first step you need to take if you are unhappy with your sales results is to look at the data. If you are not attracting prospects at all, then you need to look at your traffic generation methods and focus your attention at improving those areas. If you are depending on article marketing, go back through your articles and see if you can edit them to improve your click-thrus. If you are using PPC campaigns, you need to be testing a lot more variations of text or different keywords. Shake things up until you see at least a 20% improvement. Don’t stop there, but once you see a 20% improvement, then you can be confident that your improvements are actually working.

If you see that you are attracting a ton of prospects, but none of them are clicking on your offer, then the problem lies on your landing page. You need to change the look, change the message, and keep trying until you’ve improved the results. Make sure you are focused on the benefits of your online income system, not features of the program. Again, keep tweaking your page until you’ve improved the numbers by at least 20%.

If prospects are clicking on your offer, but then abandon the sale, the problem is with your offer. Either you are attracting prospects who can’t afford your product or service, or your offer did not set the right expectation for the customer and something on the order form made the prospect uncomfortable.

Start with the data and then keep revising and reworking until you succeed. Moving on to another program will not solve your problem if you have not mastered the basics of advertising. If others are successfully selling the same online income system, you can, too. It just takes effort on your part. But it is effort worth the cost because you will see increased sales as a result.
