Affiliate marketing is basically promoting other people's products online and earning a cut of the price if someone buys one of these products based on your promotion. I won't get into the mechanics of how all this works. There are plenty of courses and websites out there that describe how affiliate marketing works. In fact, I will recommend a few of them at the end of this article. What are the upsides of affiliate marketing? Upside 1. Affiliate marketing allows you to work from home with no boss. You set your own hours and work in your pajamas if you like. Upside 2. Affiliate marketing has unlimited earnings potential. Look around online, and you'll find lots of people making lots of money online. You can theoretically work as much as you want and earn as much as you want. Upside 3. Affiliate marketing is fun. Because you choose the products you promote, you can (and should) pick a niche that you personally find interesting and exciting. That keeps you motivated to stick with it, and it makes it fun. Are there any downsides? Downside 1. Affiliate marketing may take awhile to start earning you money. Affiliate marketing is a business. As such, you can expect to work very hard at the beginning with little to no earnings early on. This is true of any business, and you have to be patient and stick with it to start earning. Downside 2. Everyone's doing it. Because affiliate marketing is so easy to get into, lots of people are doing it. That means competition. That doesn't mean you can't make money with it. It just means you will have to be better than your competition when you do it, like any other business. Downside 3. It's getting harder. Many of the traditional locations online that affiliate marketers have used successfully are getting fed up with the flood of affiliate marketers using their sites for that purpose. Many have put up barriers, even banning affiliate links. Some will block you based solely on a product name if that product is popular with affiliate marketers. That doesn't mean you can't make money with affiliate marketing anymore. It just means that affiliate marketers have to be creative in using those services effectively or finding new avenues to promote their products. Affiliate marketing is easy to learn, but it may take awhile to get good at it and start earning an online income.
