Are you one of those people who is tired of working all day for someone else, living paycheck-to-paycheck trying to make ends meet, and wondering when it's finally going to be your turn?
You've probably heard about people earning outrageous incomes with a home-based internet business. You may even be considering jumping in yourself to see if this would work for you.
Here's a little test to see if you have what it takes to be an entrepreneur with a successful home-based business.
I'll start with the assumption that you are currently employed, either full or part-time, either day or night, but a job working for a company or a person who pays you for your work on either an hourly or salaried basis.
When do you arrive at work? Right on time? A few minutes early? Or does it seem like something always goes wrong and causes you to be a few minutes late most days?
When you get to work, do you jump right in? Do you take a few minutes to have a cup of coffee and check in with your co-workers first?
Do you take regular breaks? Or do you just barrell through your day?
What about lunch? Do you take a lunch everyday? Do you come back from lunch early, on time or late?
At the end of your work day, are you ready to leave on time? Or do you work right up until quitting time and then take a few minutes to organize your work space or get ready for the next day? Or do you frequently work beyond your quitting time?
What about evenings and weekends? Are they your own? Or do you frequently spend what is designated as your "personal time" doing work?
One of the big reasons people cite for wanting to start a business of their own is so that they can be their own boss, make their own schedule, and not have unrealistic expectations placed on them by their employer.
If you have your own business, then you are your own boss. So, tell, me, in all of the descriptions above, if you ar the boss, which employee would you want to hire? The one who is frequently late, leaves right on time, and does borderline work at best? Or would you hire the employee who gets to work on time, leaves on time, and does what is expected?
Personally, I would want to hire the workaholic. I want the person who comes in early so that when it's time for her shift to start, she's ready. In fact, she may already be working before start time. I want the one who will work through lunch if he's working on a project that he just doesn't want to walk away from. I want to hire the peson who doesn't mind working over into her personal time in order to do her very best and complete a project on time or even ahead of schedule.
Looks a little different from the bosses perspective, doesn't it?
Honestly, if you are one of those people who does the bare minimum that has to be done so that you can enjoy your free time, having a business of your own probably isn't the answer. Just keep punching that time clock.
Maybe once you have a well-established, profitable business you can start to take it easy, but I guarantee you, in the beginning, you will be working harder than you've ever worked in your life, and putting in more hours than you ever dreamed would be required.
If you lack discipline now, I'd recommend developing some before you take the leap into a home-based business opportunity.
